Very difficult situation. I know the frustration of trying to build hours on a chartered flight. IT IS ILLEGAL. If it is a charter operation, then the PIC WILL be CPL (or better) and he WILL log the hours.
I have done a number of jobs where the PIC is not an instructor and he allowed me to fly the machine from the left seat (PIC right hand seat in the particular helicopter). These flights were always when flying to or back from sling jobs and therefore no passengers were onboard. I have logged the hours and written the flight in my logbook as a reference and confirmation that I have actually flown the type. I also thank the PIC sincerely for these opportunities, because if something does go wrong, it is him who will be in trouble.
It is however not logged under PIC or Dual hours. I just right it in on the far left of my logbook. It doesn?t count towards any totals. I do this for a few reasons. It is a reference that I am familiar with the type, although not rated and it further confirms the hours I have logged. If I ever need to use my logbook as a reference it will be clear that these situations did arise, but was not counted as actual flying hours.
Had such an experience recently with a Bell 407. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, what a nice machine. |
