All of which means that the mother of all parties that has been planned for The Barnyard’s festive season is going to be the ultimate antidote to stress. Journey with us to the other end of the globe and get caught up in everything that is endearingly Irish, with Celtic Rock which runs from 25 September to 6 January.All the music featured in the show is influenced by the Emerald Isle, which has succeeded in producing some of the most popular and acclaimed music of recent decades, and Celtic Rock will combine elements of folk and pop and a good dose of pub songs washed down with an abundance of rock. Celtic Rock features music of The Corrs, Van Morrison, Thin Lizzy, Chris De Burgh, U2, Wilson Pickett, The Commitments, The Cranberries and Simple Minds. Audiences can wash their Guinness down with songs such as Sunday Bloody Sunday, Try A Little Tenderness, Lady In Red, Don’t You Forget About Me and Brown Eyed Girl.The sing-a-long sections will have audiences banging on the tables as they get caught up in the magic of Ireland with numbers like Danny Boy,Wild Rover, The Leaving of Liverpool and Whiskey In The Jar.Celtic Rock features an eleven–piece cast which will be led by authentic Irishman Ciaran Fox, who will be joined by Lee Paver, Liezel Pieters and Jessica Yallup on vocals. The show will also feature Lorna Martin who has toured the world as a dancer in The Spirit of the Dance, and the band is made up of Calli Thomson on keyboards, Josh Thatcher on guitar, Juan Smit on drums, Donovan Thatcher on bass guitar, Dianne Neil or Catrien Jooste on violin, and Colin Mairs on saxophone and flute.The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway will also be staging lunchtime shows in during the weeks preceding Christmas to cater for corporate entertaining. Celtic Rock will be doing additional matinee shows on Fridays 30 November, 7 and 14 December, as well as Wednesday, 12 December.The Emerald Isle, a bright jewel in the dark Atlantic is home to a people who are always ready with a smile and a bit of Blarney to help the Guiness go down.
